Oh Kāfir! Islam is the Truth
Islam did not come only with acts of worship. It came to protect humanity itself. Every Prophet sent by Allah came with a message that preserved certain essential human rights. These are not modern inventions, nor are they borrowed from any political system. Rather, they are taken directly from the Qur’an and the Sunnah, and the scholars extracted them by studying the whole message of Islam.
The scholars mention five basic human rights that Islam protects and honors:
- The Religion (Ad-Dīn)
- Life and physical safety (An-Nafs)
- Lineage and ancestry (An-Nasl / An-Nasab)
- The intellect (Al-ʿAql)
- Property (Al-Māl)
These five essentials were not created by later scholars. They were derived through careful study of the entire revelation. One of the strongest evidences for them appears in the Qur’an itself, specifically in Sūrah al-Anʿām (6:151-152).
In these verses, Allah commands:
- Do not associate anything with Him in worship. This clearly protects the religion.
- Do not kill your children and do not kill anyone whom Allah has forbidden. This protects life.
- Do not go near immoral acts such as fornication. This protects lineage and family.
- Allah says: “So that you may understand.” This points to the protection of the intellect.
- And Allah forbids the misuse of the orphan’s wealth and commands justice in transactions. This protects property.
So within just these two verses, the entire foundation of human rights in Islam is clearly present.
This understanding was not limited to later scholars. It was mentioned centuries ago by the great scholar Imam Ash‑Shatibi in his famous book Al‑Muwafaqat. He explained that these five essentials are protected in every religion sent by Allah to every Prophet.
This shows something very important. Islam does not only command prayer and fasting. It protects faith, life, family, intellect, and wealth. Without these five things, human life itself collapses. That is why the Qur’an emphasizes them again and again.
And Allah knows best.
